HUSKIES SWEEP BOBCATS
Keep play-off hopes alive
Jan 27
SASKATOON SK – Fresh off their first home court win, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies prepared to defend their territory once again from the Brandon University Bobcats in game two of the weekend double-header. The Dogs dominated on their home court and swept the Bobcats three games to none (25-18; 25-22; 25-23).
The Huskies started off on the right foot as they hit their way to a 25-18 win over the Bobcats. Brandon started to come back in the second set only to have the Huskies slip by them 25-22. The Bobcats battled back in the third set, as they came back from being down by five points, to getting ahead of the Dogs 22-19 and it seemed as if the teams would head to a fourth set. The Dogs persevered and snuck past the Bobcats 25-23 in the third and final set of the match.
After the match, 5th year Huskie Erica Fraser was perhaps a little choked-up seeing that this was her last ever home game as a Huskie.
"Uh... I can't believe it's over already. It was so exciting winning both of these games this weekend. I'm excited for my team, proud of my team, and I'm glad that we could finish this thing out in style."
For the Huskies head coach Leslie Irie, this weekend was very satisfying in so many ways, but was quick to give credit to her team who played some of their best volleyball yet this year.
"It's not me... it's the players; we made a point of focusing on the little things this weekend and we wanted to make sure we were ready to play this evening," says Irie. "Brandon finds a way to put pressure on you; we just really focused on what we were doing."
This wraps up the Huskies home games as they hit the road for the next two weekends to finish up their conference play. The Dogs will be squaring off against Manitoba next weekend (03/02/07), with Regina travelling to Brandon to face the Bobcats.
