Battle of the Prairies Go to the Wesmen
Saturday January 20th ( SASKATOON) -This weekend we faced off against the Winnipeg Wesmen in Saskatoon. We started off the match on Friday night with confidence and determination and came out firing putting Winnipeg back on their heels. We took the first two sets and started to think it was going to be an early night. But the Wesmen, known for their composure and patience, stayed in the game and ended up taking the next set.
We did not want to go to five sets with Winnipeg so we picked up our game in the fourth set but it ended up not being enough as the Wesmen took the set 25-23. With their momentum from the fourth they also grabbed the win in the fifth set. After the long match, we felt emotionally and physically drained and knew we had to regroup for the Saturday match which we knew would be more difficult. We came out Saturday determined to give a better performance than the night before and not ready to give up.
Winnipeg had raised their level of play and we both battled for the first
set with the final score being 32-30 in our favour.
After the grueling first set, we came out flat for the second set, falling quickly behind. We pushed to close the gap but it wasn't enough and they ended up taking the second
and third set. The next set was much the same, Winnipeg stepped up and they were able to finish us in four. The final score was 25-21. We were disappointed in the end result but were proud that we did not give up after Friday evening's match. This weekend was a learning experience and we need to learn from our victories and our defeats and use them to our advantage against Brandon next weekend.
